If you lose your Pakistani passport, report it to the police straight away, then apply for a replacement at a Regional Passport Office. Overseas Pakistanis apply through their nearest Pakistani mission. The fee is higher for a lost passport, and it rises each time you lose one. Here are the steps, the documents and how to protect your identity while you wait.
Step 1: Report the Loss to the Police
According to ARY News (19 June 2026), citing the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DG I&P), you should report the loss at the nearest relevant police station right away. ARY calls this a “passport missing report,” not an FIR.
- Include your passport number if you know it.
- If you do not know it, submit a written complaint with a copy of your CNIC or NICOP.
Step 2: Find Your Old Passport Number
A Pakistan Observer report (November 2024) says to get the lost passport number from your nearest Regional Passport Office by writing an application. Your police report should name the lost passport number. Check whether your office needs this step.
Step 3: Apply for a Replacement
Take your police report to the nearest Regional Passport Office. ARY News lists these documents:
- A copy of your CNIC or NICOP.
- The police report or written complaint.
- A Child Registration Certificate (B-Form) for children.
If You Are Abroad
The Pakistan Embassy in Belgrade says overseas Pakistanis can apply online through the DGIP portal (onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk). Passports are issued through Pakistan’s missions abroad. It says applications are accepted only with complete documents and are handled first come, first served, with no appointment needed. This is one mission’s page, and other missions may differ. Our guide on booking consulate appointments may also help. The page I read did not list the documents for a lost passport or whether a police report is needed. Ask your nearest mission what to bring.
Fees
A lost passport costs more than a normal one. ARY News says the first loss is charged at double the standard fee, and the second at four times. Pakistan Observer (22 November 2024) lists these first-loss rates:
| Passport | Validity | Normal | Urgent |
|---|---|---|---|
| 36 pages | 5 years | Rs9,000 | Rs15,000 |
| 36 pages | 10 years | Rs13,400 | Rs22,400 |
| 72 pages | 5 years | Rs16,400 | Rs27,000 |
| 72 pages | 10 years | Rs24,800 | Rs40,400 |
| 100 pages | 5 years | Rs18,000 | Rs36,000 |
| 100 pages | 10 years | Rs27,000 | Rs54,000 |
ARY News prints the same amounts as “standard” fees, which does not match its own double-fee statement. ProPakistani (November 2024) quotes the passport directorate as saying the lost-passport fee starts at Rs9,000 for the first replacement. I used Pakistan Observer’s labels, but confirm the exact amount with your passport office. The amounts for a second loss are not listed in the reports I read.
If You Lose It More Than Once
- Second loss: Four times the fee, according to ARY News.
- Third loss: The case is referred to the DG I&P in Islamabad for approval. Abroad, the mission may review it first.
- The Belgrade page says a third loss abroad is charged eight times the fee, and gives an example of a $54 passport costing $108 after the first loss. These are one mission’s figures.
How Long Does It Take?
ARY News does not say how long a replacement takes. Ask your passport office, and use the urgent service if you need to travel soon.
Protect Your Identity
A lost passport carries your name, photo, date of birth and CNIC number, so act quickly.
- Report the loss to the police as soon as you notice it, so the document is on record.
- Do not post a photo of your passport or the police report online.
- Watch your bank and mobile accounts for activity you do not recognise. Call your bank if something looks wrong.
- Be careful of calls or messages asking for your CNIC number, passport number or OTP. Government offices do not ask for these by phone or chat.
- If you find the passport later, tell the passport office and police before you use it. A reported lost passport may not be valid for travel.
- Keep scans of your passport and CNIC in a safe place, so you can give the numbers when you report a loss.
The identity advice above is general safety advice and not from the passport directorate.
Stay Safe From Scams
- Do not pay agents extra to “fast-track” a replacement.
- Use only the official passport offices, missions and the DGIP portal.
- Check the web address yourself before you enter any details.
What I Could Not Confirm
- The processing time for a replacement.
- Whether the fees in the table are the first-loss fees or the standard fees.
- The fee for a second loss.
- The documents needed abroad.
