How to Trace Lost or Stolen iPhone | An Easy Guide:
In the event that your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch goes missing or is stolen, it’s important to use the Find My feature to protect your personal data. To locate your device, you can access iCloud.com/find and sign in or use the Find My app on another Apple device that is registered to you. If your device is not listed, it means that Find My was not activated. Nevertheless, you can still secure your account even if Find My wasn’t enabled.
Activate a remote passcode to lock:
By marking your device as lost, you can activate a remote passcode to lock it and ensure that your data is safe. This action also deactivates Apple Pay on the misplaced device. Additionally, you can display a personalized message on the lost device that contains your contact information.
Report missing device to local law enforcement
It is advisable to report your missing device to local law enforcement, who may request the serial number of your device. If your lost iPhone has AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss coverage, you can file a claim to request a replacement iPhone.
Remotely erase your device:
You can also remotely erase your device, which will delete all data on it. If your device previously had iOS 15, iPadOS 15, or a later version installed, you can still use Find My to locate the device or play a sound on it after erasing it. However, if you don’t have AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss coverage, you’ll lose the ability to find the device or produce sound after erasing it. If you have AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss coverage, you should not remove the device from your Apple ID or Find My.
Contact your wireless carrier:
If the lost device is an iPhone or an iPad with cellular capability, you should contact your wireless carrier to inform them about the lost device. You should request the carrier to deactivate your account to prevent any unauthorized calls, texts, or data usage. If the device is part of your wireless carrier plan, you can make a claim.
Remove your missing device from your account:
Finally, if you have AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss coverage, you should keep your misplaced iPhone connected to your Apple ID or Find My until your claim is approved. You can go to appleid.apple.com to remove the missing device from your list of trusted devices.
