Pakistan Railway Stations To Get International-Standard Solar Panels:
To enhance energy efficiency and revitalize the railway industry, Pakistani railway stations will be equipped with high-standard solar panels. This initiative follows the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who has emphasized the need for a comprehensive plan to streamline Pakistan Railways.
Under this strategy, solar panels will be installed at several key railway stations, including Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Karachi, Multan, Lahore, and Sukkur. The project is estimated to cost Rs 40 million. The primary objectives are to conserve electricity, considering Pakistan’s limited resources, and to modernize the railway sector.
In the initial phase of the project, specific stations have been identified for solar panel installation. These include three stations in Peshawar, twenty stations in Lahore, five stations in Rawalpindi, four stations in Multan, three stations in Quetta, five stations in Sukkur, and five stations in Karachi. Additionally, any excess electricity generated from the solar panels will be supplied to the main grid station of the Water and Electricity Development Authority.
This initiative is expected to significantly reduce reliance on traditional electricity sources, promote sustainable practices, and contribute to the overall modernization and efficiency of Pakistan’s railway system.
