Expensive Banana Artwork Worth $120,000 Eaten By Museum Visitor:
A South Korean student recently ate a banana that was part of an art piece by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, which was worth over $120,000 (more than PKR 34 million). The banana was on display at the Seoul National University Museum of Art, where it taped to a wall. According to a museum spokesperson, the student claimed that he did not eat breakfast and was hungry, which led him to eat the banana.
The banana, which was part of Cattelan’s artwork titled “Comedian,” had been sold for $120,000 in December 2019 at an auction in the United States. After eating the banana, the student replaced the peel back on the wall with tape, and the museum later replaced it with a new banana.
The incident was sudden and unexpected, so no action taken against the student. The artist also informed of the incident, but he reportedly stated that it did not bother him. It should be note that the banana is not a fresh one but is replace every two or three days to prevent it from spoiling.
