First Ever Test Drive For Puncture-Less and Airless Tires :
General Motors (GM) has conducted a test drive of a new type of tire, called “airless” or “non-pneumatic,” on a Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle, marking the first time such a tire has tested. The automaker believes that this new technology has the potential to revolutionize the automobile industry. And provide a safer and more comfortable driving experience. GM has collaborated with Michelin over several years to develop these airless tires. Which made up of composite materials and can withstand punctures and other types of damage that would cause regular tires to go flat. Instead of being fill with air, these tires have a series of spokes that support the vehicle’s weight.
GM conducted the test drive at the Milford Proving Grounds in Michigan,. Where the vehicle driven at various speeds, including high speeds of up to 80 miles per hour. According to GM’s press release, the airless tires provided a smooth and comfortable ride, similar to that of traditional tires.
GM and Michelin are now exploring ways to bring airless tires to market. They believe that this new type of tire could reduce waste and protect the environment by eliminating the need for tire disposal. Furthermore, airless tires could make driving safer by decreasing the risk of accidents caused by tire damage, such as blowouts.
