Load-shedding in Pakistan is planned by feeder, not by city. A feeder is the power line that supplies a group of homes. To know when your power will go, you must first find your feeder, then look up its schedule. Here are the steps, what the sources say and what they do not.
Why a City Timetable Is Not Enough
CheckBills.pk, a third-party site that says it is not linked to any power company, says schedules are published per feeder, so a city-wide timing will not tell you your cut times. Two neighbouring streets can be on different feeders with different timings.
Step 1: Find Your Feeder Name
CheckBills.pk says your feeder is tied to your meter. It does not say whether your bill prints the feeder name, so I could not confirm that. It names the sub-division office (SDO) as the place to ask. Take your reference number and ask the SDO for the name of your feeder.
That page is about GEPCO. The same step should be the safest way in other areas too, but I did not confirm it for each company.
Step 2: Open Your Power Company’s Website
ARY News (31 March 2026) reports that distribution companies (DISCOs) have started publishing feeder-level load-shedding schedules and real-time outage updates on their official websites. It says this followed directives from the Pakistan Information Commission under the Right of Access to Information Act, 2017. It says the Power Division told all DISCOs to upload feeder-wise schedules and to post sudden load-shedding and breakdowns quickly.
The report does not name the websites or explain how to look up a feeder. Go to your own company’s official website, such as the one on your bill, and look for load-shedding or schedule on the home page. Type the address yourself. Do not use links in messages.
Step 3: Match Your Feeder and Read the Timings
- Open the schedule page.
- Choose your feeder name or area.
- Note the hours.
- Check the page again before a hot weekend. Timings can change.
These steps are general advice, since I could not open the DISCO pages to see their layout.
Other Places to Check
- SMS alerts and social media: CheckBills.pk says GEPCO consumers can register for SMS alerts and follow GEPCO’s Facebook page. Check whether your company offers the same.
- Roshan Pakistan: In June 2018 the energy minister announced the website roshanpakistan.pk, which ARY says shows feeder load management status, complaints and daily power position. That report is from 2018 and gives no steps, and I did not open the site. Treat it as a lead, not a guarantee.
- K-Electric: A K-Electric load-shed schedule PDF dated 20 October 2025 appeared in my search results on ke.com.pk. I did not open it, so check the K-Electric website for the current one.
Unplanned Outages
CheckBills.pk says unplanned outages do not appear on any schedule. For GEPCO it says to call 118 or use the GEPCO complaint portal. Other companies have their own numbers, which I did not find in these sources. Check the number on your bill.
Why Some Feeders Get More Load-Shedding
- High-loss feeders: The Standard (31 May 2024) reports that the then Energy Minister said “economic loadshedding” continues in areas with high losses, cutting 15 to 16 hours on feeders with 20 to 80% losses. NEPRA’s chairman disagreed and said it violates the NEPRA Act. NEPRA fined five DISCOs Rs50 million each. This was the 2024 position.
- February 2026: The News (13 February 2026) reports the Power Division Minister told the National Assembly that over 2,000 of 12,665 feeders face more than 10 hours of daily load-shedding. It lists PESCO 642 of 1,376, QESCO 604 of 814, SEPCO 407 of 707, HESCO 322 of 747, TESCO 174 of 357 and Hazara 37 of 286. It says no LESCO, IESCO, GEPCO or FESCO feeders are in that group.
- Older example: In 2017, the IESCO chief said feeders with losses under 10% had no load-shedding, and cuts rose with losses, up to eight hours at about 80%. That was 2017 policy and may have changed.
The sources do not say how a consumer can check their feeder’s loss category.
What You Can Do
- Keep your feeder name and sub-division office number on your phone.
- Report a feeder with cuts far above its schedule to the company’s complaint line, and keep the complaint number.
- Do not pay anyone to “fix” your feeder timings.
This advice is general.
What I Could Not Confirm
- Whether your bill prints the feeder name.
- The websites and lookup steps for each DISCO.
- Whether roshanpakistan.pk still works.
- The current rules on load-shedding hours by feeder loss.
- The complaint numbers for DISCOs other than the 118 line named for GEPCO.
