RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar announced on Tuesday that the party’s founder, Imran Khan, has given the green signal for talks with the government, signaling a potential breakthrough in the ongoing political impasse.
Dialogue Advocated by Imran Khan
Speaking to journalists outside the Adiala jail, Gohar emphasized the necessity of dialogue, citing Khan’s agreement on the matter. “We told the PTI founder that dialogue is necessary, as the distance is widening. He agreed with us [on this],” said Gohar.
Khan’s Willingness to Reconcile
Gohar revealed Khan’s readiness to forgive past grievances for the sake of reconciliation. “PTI founder has said many times that ‘I am ready to forgive what happened to me’,” affirmed the PTI chairman.
Negotiation Options Explored
While addressing queries regarding the negotiation process, Barrister Gohar clarified that the Supreme Court’s suggestion is under consideration but emphasized that PTI’s decision to negotiate is independent. “PTI founder did not write any letter to the SC for negotiation. PTI will also respond to its negotiation option,” he stated.
Alliance-Level Negotiations
Highlighting the importance of alliances, Gohar indicated that negotiations could extend to the alliance level. He assured that PTI committed to exploring all avenues for dialogue and improvement in the political landscape.
No Interpretation as Deal
Asserting PTI’s sincerity in negotiations, Gohar reiterated that their offer for dialogue should not be misconstrued as a deal. “We have never refused to negotiate. The ice is breaking. We want things to improve,” he expressed.
Strategic Initiatives Post Decision
The announcement follows Khan’s directive to PTI leaders to engage in discussions both within and outside the Parliament to alleviate political tensions. Additionally, PTI lawmakers instructed to strengthen relations with parties in the ruling coalition government.
Legal Concerns Addressed
Gohar also disclosed that Khan shared concerns about not being allowed to communicate with his sons during his meeting with lawyers. This development coincided with Khan’s interaction with Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, where discussions revolved around the need for parliamentary involvement in resolving national issues.
Committee Mandated for Contacts
In a strategic move, Khan delegated authority to a three-member committee within his party to establish contact with the establishment, indicating a proactive approach towards resolving prevailing issues.
By repeatedly emphasizing the importance of dialogue and reconciliation, PTI appears poised to navigate the complexities of the political landscape with a renewed focus on negotiation and collaboration.
