India to Welcome New Tesla Electric Vehicle (EV) Plant While Major Auto Industries in Pakistan Face Shutdown:
In a noteworthy development, executives from Tesla, including supply chain managers, are engaging in discussions with senior Indian officials as the company prepares to establish a presence in India. The primary focus of these discussions revolves around Tesla’s renewed interest in India, with plans to construct a new factory dedicated to manufacturing electric vehicles (EVs) for both domestic and international markets.
This move comes after Tesla temporarily put its India plans on hold last year, citing the desire for reduced import duties. On the other hand, India has expressed concerns about the importation of Tesla vehicles and has requested the company to assemble its cars using completely knocked-down (CKD) components. Despite facing these challenges, Tesla remains committed to entering the highly lucrative Indian market and aims to expand its supply network within the country.
In contrast, major auto industries in Pakistan, such as Suzuki, Honda, and Toyota, are facing imminent shutdown due to the country’s unstable economic conditions and soaring prices. Additionally, the ban on imports and the discontinuation of local car manufacturing in Pakistan have further contributed to this situation.
