Instagram has announced a push into long videos. A new format called “Features” lets some creators post horizontal videos of up to 90 minutes. The company also announced Series, live streams in Reels and an Instagram app for Apple TV. The news came on 26 October 2026. Most of these features are tests with a limited group of creators, so most Instagram users cannot post or see them yet. Here is what was announced and what is still unclear.
What Is “Features”?
Features is a new horizontal video format for long content such as podcasts, interviews, comedy specials and vlogs, according to Online Tech Tips. Dawn Images says it supports videos up to 90 minutes and targets podcasters, comedians and other long-form creators. Engadget describes it as a test.
- Who can post: Only select creators. Engadget says only a few creators with individual deals with Meta can make long-form content for now. Instagram has not published eligibility rules, according to Online Tech Tips.
- Length: Online Tech Tips says Instagram is testing several limits, with 90 minutes as the highest, so it may not be the final limit.
- Where: Dawn Images says it has rolled out to some US creators. Online Tech Tips says it was tested with some creators in Brazil and is expanding to a small US test.
Promo Reels
Creators can post short vertical Reels that link to the full Feature, so viewers can go from a clip to the full video. Online Tech Tips, citing Variety, says a Feature can have up to eight clips.
Series
Series is a multi-episode format that lets viewers follow related videos in order. The reports differ on its status:
- Dawn Images says it was introduced to some creators in the US, India and Mexico, with more countries expected soon.
- Online Tech Tips says it has been tested since spring 2026 with select creators in those countries and will expand through the end of 2026.
- Geo News says Series is planned for the US by late 2026 or early 2027.
Lives in Reels
Live streams will be recommended in the Reels feed, including to people who do not follow the creator, according to Dawn Images. Online Tech Tips says discovery changes are being tested in Indonesia and Brazil, and it describes the feature as “coming soon.”
Instagram for TV
- Instagram is adding an Apple TV app, after Samsung, Amazon Fire TV and Google TV, according to Dawn Images and Engadget.
- Geo News says the app runs on Apple TV models with tvOS 26 or later and shows a Reels feed of long-form videos, short series and live streams, not regular posts.
- Viewing progress syncs across devices, so you can start on a phone and continue on the TV.
- Dawn Images says Instagram plans to let people use their phones as remotes and see what friends are watching.
- Online Tech Tips says the Apple TV app is available in the US, and live-stream support is coming “soon.”
What Instagram Said
- Tessa Lyons, Instagram’s VP of product: “Instagram is all about connecting people over creativity” (Dawn Images). She also said, “People love to watch reels together in their living rooms with their friends” (Geo News).
- Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s head, says the company is “leaning in” to long-form video because short and long content can complement each other (Geo News). Engadget says he hopes they will be “symbiotic” and that the effort will likely “take some time to get right.”
Money for Creators
Online Tech Tips, citing Variety, says there is no YouTube-style ad revenue share for Features yet. Lyons said Instagram is working on “a few different deals” with early creators, and that existing ad deals will carry over into the videos. Instagram is exploring brand, fan and platform-based earnings, but none is final.
Is This Like IGTV?
Engadget notes that Instagram tried long videos before with IGTV in 2018, which never gained much traction. It does not say whether this attempt will do better.
Will It Come to Pakistan?
None of the reports I read say whether Features, Series or the TV app will be available in Pakistan. Series is reported in India, but Pakistan is not named. Do not expect to see these features in your app right away.
What Is Not Clear
- When Features will open to more creators or to everyone.
- Exact eligibility rules and payment terms.
- Which countries will get each feature, and when.
- Whether 90 minutes will be the final limit.
