KARACHI: The Chairman of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP), Chela Ram Kewlani, expressed optimism on Monday, stating that Pakistan rice export will reach $4 billion this year. According to ARY News, the export of rice has already surpassed $3.5 billion, marking a record high in March.
This year, Pakistan harvested a bumper crop of nine million tons of rice. So far, the country has exported a total of five million tons of rice this season. Kewlani highlighted that Pakistan rice export is not only thriving but also expanding into new markets. Pakistani rice has now started to penetrate markets in Russia, Mexico, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
Additionally, the export of Pakistani brown rice has seen a significant increase in Europe. This year alone, 500,000 tons of brown rice exported to European countries. This surge in demand highlights the growing popularity and acceptance of Pakistani rice globally.
The steady growth in Pakistan rice export showcases the country’s strong agricultural sector and its ability to meet international demand. With new markets opening up and existing ones expanding, Pakistan’s rice export industry poised for continued success. The REAP Chairman remains confident that the $4 billion target will be achieved by the end of the year, solidifying Pakistan’s position as a leading rice exporter on the global stage.
