PTV Receives Rs. 200 Million Copyright Notice from Local YouTuber:
Local YouTuber Muzzamil Hussain, popularly known as MHTOORI, has taken legal action against Pakistan Television (PTV) World for alleged copyright infringement. The content creator served a legal notice to the state-owned television after it aired one of his original videos without obtaining permission. Typically, TV channels seek permission and provide due credit when broadcasting others’ videos, but PTV did neither in this case.
Muzzamil Hussain discovered the unauthorized broadcast of his video by PTV World on September 30th around 2 pm. The YouTuber expressed his displeasure, noting that the state television did not approach him for consent nor credited his work. The legal notice claims that the PTV broadcasted video was compiled from various clips of MHTOORI’s videos on Facebook, showcasing diverse locations across the country such as Swabi, Islamia College University, Gwadar, Khanpur Dam, and other historical sites.
In the legal notice, Muzzamil demands that PTV immediately cease the broadcast, distribution, or any further use of the contested video. Additionally, he seeks compensation amounting to Two Hundred Million PKR for the unauthorized creation and broadcast of his video, citing the Copyright Ordinance of 1962.
MHTOORI’s lawyer has given a 7-day ultimatum to the PTV administration to respond to the legal notice. Failure to meet these demands within the stipulated time will result in the initiation of legal proceedings by the content creator against PTV for the alleged copyright infringement.
