Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has enlisted the legendary Wasim Akram as a mentor for their bowlers in the lead up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Akram, considered one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time, brings a wealth of experience to the role.
This isn’t Wasim Akram’s first foray into coaching. He has previously coached teams in high-profile tournaments like the IPL and PSL. Akram’s two-day training camp will involve five sessions designed to sharpen the bowling skills of Sri Lanka’s national team players. The sessions will extend beyond just the national team, with coaches from major Sri Lankan clubs and SLC High Performance coaches also participating.
Sri Lanka is looking to bounce back from a disappointing group stage exit in the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup. Their talent and potential were evident in the 2014 T20 World Cup final against India, and with Wasim Akram’s guidance, they hope to rediscover that winning form on the biggest stage.
