Padmin Rajan, a resident of Tamil Nadu, has earned the title of “India’s election king” due to his participation in the most elections globally. According to Indian media reports, Rajan has contested in 238 political elections from Tamil Nadu, becoming the world’s most unsuccessful electoral candidate after losing each time.
A 65-year-old motor mechanic by profession, Rajan hails from the town of Mettur in Tamil Nadu. Over the past three decades, he has participated in hundreds of elections, spending thousands of dollars on registration fees. This consistency made him India’s election king.
In an interview with a local news outlet, India’s election king expressed that winning elections should be a secondary objective. He believes that elections build character and teach one to accept defeat graciously, making them the greatest teacher. While all candidates aspire to win elections, Rajan remains an exception.
Despite facing defeat in 238 elections, Rajan remains undeterred, intending to contest in the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu as his 239th electoral battle
