Pakistan is seeking collaboration with the United States for agriculture modernization in Pakistan. According to Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Masood Khan. Ambassador Khan made these remarks during a meeting with California’s Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis in Los Angeles.
Agriculture Modernization a Priority
Ambassador Khan highlighted Pakistan’s interest in acquiring US expertise and technology in three key areas of agriculture:
- Modernization: Pakistan seeks to improve its agricultural practices and infrastructure to increase efficiency and productivity.
- Hybrid Seed Development: Developing improved crop varieties that are more resistant to disease and pests is a major focus.
- Climate-Smart Crops and Agriculture: Pakistan is looking for ways to adapt its agriculture to the challenges of climate change.
This focus on agriculture modernization aligns with Pakistan’s long history of cooperation with the United States in this sector. Universities from both countries already have established partnerships, and Ambassador Khan expressed a desire to expand this collaboration.
The meeting also explored potential collaboration in other sectors, including IT and renewable energy. Pakistan’s existing ties with Silicon Valley and its young, tech-savvy population were identified as strengths for future partnerships.
