Islamabad: Starlink, a US-based broadband Internet company owned by Elon Musk. A delegation by Starlink met IT secretary Dr. Sohail Rajpoot and Pakistan’s minister of IT and Telecom Syed Aminul Haq. They showed their interest to provide broadband service to rural Pakistan.
Delegation was headed by director Starlink Middle East and Asia Mr. Rayan Goodnight. The delegation also included their head of site acquisition Mr. Ben Macwilliam. It will be Starlink’s 1st operation in South Asia. In this meeting, the IT minister described with 40,000 schools, small and medium enterprises. He described scaling up their digital presence in the country the broadband demand in Pakistan was on the rise.

Earlier delegation has also visited Pakistan Telecommunication Authority chairman Mr. Amir Azeem Bajwa. The chairman assured them in all aspects. He also said that all the support and help in line with regulatory framework for Starlink’s operations in Pakistan. So discussions are underway to connect rural areas in Pakistan to high-speed internet.

Currently most users in Rural & Semi-Rural areas of Pakistan use 4G services. Which are provided by mobile companies. Some inhabitants use wireless devices provided by mobile companies. While the major population of rural areas use mobile devices. And they share internet services with their loved ones using mobile hot-spot services.
