Govt Employees Using Free Electricity Worth Around Rs. 8 Billion in Pakistan:
The recent increase in electricity taxes has brought to light alarming statistics. A significant number of government employees enjoy the privilege of availing themselves of free electricity, amounting to a staggering Rs. 8 billion, which puts a substantial burden on the public, particularly the low- and middle-class citizens of Pakistan.
According to data obtained from the Ministry of Energy, nearly 189,000 government employees benefit from this perk. The households of these officials consume more than 34 crore units of free electricity annually.
Furthermore, it is projected that the provision of free electricity could potentially escalate to 99 crores on a monthly basis and 11.5 crore on an annual basis. This situation raises serious concerns during times of economic crisis and rising inflation, casting doubt on the fairness and sustainability of the country’s resource allocation.
The revelation of these figures prompts authorities to address the issue and assess the equitable distribution of resources in the country.
