If you filed a consumer complaint, you will want to know the next hearing date and the stage of your case. You need your case number, and you can check it online on a court portal or ask the court office or your lawyer. In Punjab, there is an important change: Express Tribune reported that the special consumer courts closed in July 2025, and the cases moved to regular courts. Here is how to check your case, and what changed.
First, Know Where Your Case Is
Express Tribune (reported 2025) says all 17 district consumer courts in Punjab stopped working on Tuesday, 29 July 2025. It says a 2025-26 budget amendment and a revised act ended the special status of the courts. It lists 1,682 pending cases at that time, and says active cases would go to the District and Sessions Judge, who would assign them to Additional District and Sessions Judges.
A second Express Tribune report (20 August 2025) says more than 15,000 consumer cases would move to sessions judges’ courts, and that the reason given by an official was the cost to the government. It also says plaintiffs feared long delays.
So if your case was filed in Punjab, ask which court it is in now. It may have moved. If your case is in another province, I did not find a source on the current position, so ask your court.
Step 1: Find Your Case Number
The case number, with the year, is the key. Pakera says it appears on your court receipt, any notice you received, or your lawyer’s messages. Legalpk says to look at the vakalatnama, plaint or last order.
Step 2: Choose the Right Portal
A guide on Legalpk (10 July 2026) lists these portals. Addresses change, so open each one from the court’s official website:
- District courts in Punjab: dsj.punjab.gov.pk. You search by case number, court and district.
- District courts in Sindh: cases.districtcourtssindh.gos.pk. You can search by case number, CNIC or advocate.
- Lahore High Court: lhc.gov.pk.
- Islamabad High Court: mis.ihc.gov.pk.
Legalpk gives no district court portals for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or Islamabad. Pakera (a second guide) says that for district courts you should use the high court that supervises the district, and that the Islamabad district addresses it tested did not work. The two guides do not agree, so check what your court tells you. I did not open these portals myself.
Step 3: Search
- Open the portal.
- Select the district, court or registry.
- Enter the case type, number and year.
- If the portal allows, you can search by a party’s CNIC (no dashes) or the party name.
- Read the result.
Legalpk says the result may show the next hearing date, the stage of the case (such as arguments or evidence), the last order and the court. Pakera says to try name spellings like Muhammad, Mohammad and Mohd if you search by name.
Step 4: Check the Cause List
The cause list shows which cases a judge will hear on a day. Legalpk says to check it the evening before a hearing, because dates beyond the current week may change. Pakera says cause lists are published daily on the high court sites.
Step 5: If You Cannot Find the Case Online
- Ask your lawyer to confirm the status.
- Ask the court’s registry or office. Legalpk mentions asking the registry, and getting a certified copy (naqal) from the copying branch for anything you will rely on in court.
- If the case was moved from a consumer court, give the old case number and ask where it now sits.
Pakera says online status can lag behind the courtroom, and a case may show as decided before the judgment is uploaded. Do not rely on it alone for a deadline.
Beware of Fake Calls
Pakera warns that if someone calls claiming a case exists against you and demands payment, you should not act on the call. Check the portals above, and report the number. Never pay anyone for “fixing” a hearing date.
What I Could Not Confirm
- Whether the Punjab and Sindh portals above still work at these addresses.
- The official reason and legal notice for the 2025 Punjab closure. The second Tribune report says it does not name one.
- Whether consumer courts still operate in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
- Where new consumer complaints are filed in Punjab now. The second report does not say explicitly.
- The rules for Islamabad.
This is general information, not legal advice.
