The Sindh government has announced plans to create a new corridor on the Pakistan-India border, aimed at Hindu and Jain devotees. This corridor, inspired by the Kartarpur model, would facilitate easier access to significant religious sites near the border.
Provincial Minister for Tourism Zulfiqar Ali Shah proposed this initiative to be located in Nagarparkar and Umarkot. These regions are rich in religious heritage, housing ancient Jain temples and the prominent Shri Shiv Mandir. The new corridor on the Pakistan-India border would serve as a bridge for religious tourism, allowing devotees from both nations to visit these sacred sites with greater ease.
To further enhance accessibility, Shah suggested introducing weekly flights from India to Sukkur or Larkana. This strategic move would significantly reduce travel time for Indian pilgrims, making the journey more convenient and encouraging more frequent visits.
The success of the Kartarpur Corridor, which opened in 2019, has been a major inspiration for this new project. The Kartarpur Corridor allows Sikh pilgrims to visit the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan without a visa, symbolizing a significant diplomatic achievement and a step towards improved relations between India and Pakistan.
By developing a new corridor on the Pakistan-India border specifically for Hindu and Jain pilgrims, the Sindh government aims to boost religious tourism and strengthen cultural ties between the neighboring countries. This initiative could lead to easier access to important religious sites, fostering greater understanding and cooperation between India and Pakistan.
In conclusion, the proposal for a new corridor on the Pakistan-India border holds promise for enhancing religious tourism and cultural exchange. As plans progress, it is hoped that this corridor will become a symbol of peace and unity, much like its Kartarpur counterpart.
