Islamabad: Omicron is most transmissible variant and it has reached over 100 countries. Pakistan confirms 79 Omicron cases on Tuesday in all over the Pakistan. And 85% cases transmitted due to local transmission. Health ministry warns about fifth COVID wave in Pakistan.

Omicron infection started from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, there is a fear of this Omicron variant to spread all over the Pakistan in next 15 days. This variant is easy to stop by vaccination and following SOPs regarding this-NCOC
Dr. Javed Akram- National Scientific Task Force member suggested restrictions and limitations on number of participants in events like marriage.
Omicron transmission in PAK
On 13th December 1st case of Omicron variant detected in Karachi. Now number has reached to 79 including 13 cases in Lahore, 17 cases in Islamabad and 33 cases in Karachi. NHS said cases are asymptomatic means Omicron is spreading silently in all major cities of Pakistan. Only seven or eights have ability to test and detect this Omicron variant of COVID-19.
According to some news resources, a man travel from UAE to Islamabad on 25th December tested positive with new variant of Omicron. Same is the case with patient in Lahore, she traveled from abroad and tested positive for this new variant. Two patients in Bara Kahu- Federal capital area tested positive for new variant. It indicates that Omicron transmission is increasing widely.
Current Scenario
As, 291 patients tested positive and three dead due to COVID-19 in last 24 hours with national positive rate of 0.69pc. While 636 patients are under critical care.
