Officials from Capital Development Authority -CDA and Islamabad Wildlife Management Board -IWMB conducted a survey of closed Zoo of Islamabad on Saturday. The main objective of this survey was to check the possibility for building a virtual zoo in Islamabad.
Amer Ali Ahmed -CDA Chairman and Rina Saeed Khan -IWMB Chairperson were also present to conduct the survey.
Both governments has decided to use two third part of old closed zoo for the public entertainment. There will be virtual shows on daily basis in the evening. And different documentaries and high tech films also will be part of this show. While remaining one third area of this zoo will be use for rescue and rehabilitation center of animals.
There are different plans to educate and engage the people about wild life and their importance of their freedom. It will be possible by displaying visual museum, animatronic animal models and educational 3D presentations.
The construction work for the restoration of Islamabad zoo will start soon. Recently in December 2020, Islamabad High Court IHC ordered to close the zoo.
Islamabad High Court ruled that all the animals of this zoo should be transfer to sanctuaries. In these animals there was Kavaan, only elephant of the zoo who gained attention in all over the world as a “loneliest elephant on Earth.”
The Islamabad zoo is known as Marghazar Zoo inaugurated in 1978. According to some records one million people use to visit this zoo per year.
