In a recent meeting with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senators, Nawaz Sharif emphasized that the PTI founder’s behaviour is a major obstacle in negotiations. The details of this meeting have surfaced, shedding light on the tense dynamics between the two political parties.
Nawaz Sharif’s Remarks on Dialogue with PTI
Sources revealed that PML-N senate members inquired about the party’s stance on engaging in dialogue with PTI. Responding to this, Nawaz Sharif questioned the seriousness of the PTI founder’s behaviour. “When they are not serious, how could anyone hold talks with them?” he remarked.
Sharif elaborated on past attempts to collaborate, recounting his visit to the PTI founder’s residence with an offer to work together. However, the PTI founder’s behaviour was dismissive, exemplified by his threats to imprison Nawaz Sharif and remove his air conditioning while in jail. “I have no objection if you get two ACs instead of one,” Sharif sarcastically retorted.
Strained Relations and Historical Context
Nawaz Sharif further criticized the PTI founder’s behaviour, highlighting how it remains antagonistic despite opportunities for cooperation. He compared this with the ability of PML-N and PPP to join forces to form a government. Sharif also reflected on his own experiences, including his imprisonment following nuclear tests and the economic turmoil under military rule. “Musharraf is no longer in the world, I have no grudge against him,” he stated.
Economic Concerns and Future Plans
Sharif condemned the PTI’s policies, noting that they reversed significant achievements like saying farewell to the IMF. “Those calling the metro bus a ‘jangla bus’ destroyed the country,” he added. He advised Shehbaz Sharif to focus on providing cheaper electricity and praised Maryam Nawaz for her efforts to control inflation. Sharif expressed his intention to ensure Punjab’s funds are invested in its people.
In summary, Nawaz Sharif pointed to the PTI founder’s behaviour as a key barrier to meaningful dialogue, underscoring the deep political divides and challenges in Pakistan’s political landscape.
