Pakistan’s agricultural sector is poised for a significant transformation with the launch of the Pakistan-China Joint Lab for Artificial Intelligence and Smart Agriculture at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF). This collaborative effort between the two nations marks a major step towards smart agriculture lab launched. Smart Agriculture is a technology-driven approach to farming that promises to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and empower farmers.
The inauguration ceremony, led by UAF Vice Chancellor Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan and Dr. Wu Jun, CEO of CAS Cogniser. This signifies a commitment to utilizing cutting-edge advancements in data science, drone technology, and other smart agriculture solutions. Dr. Khan specifically emphasized the potential of drone technology for spraying purposes, aiming to increase yields, decrease production costs, and safeguard farmer health in Punjab’s villages.
This initiative extends beyond the lab itself. An International Seminar on Artificial Intelligence and Smart Agriculture served as a platform for knowledge sharing and discussion . Experts attending the event, including Tauseefur Rahman, Project Director of the National Aerospace Science and Technology Park, and Sahibzada Khan, Director-General of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, all stressed the importance of technology transfer and industry-academia collaboration to modernize agriculture and achieve food security.
The launch of the Kissan Weather mobile application by Mr. Khan further strengthens the focus on empowering farmers with vital weather information. This app provides real-time data, enabling farmers to make informed decisions and optimize resource usage.
