WhatsApp – multi device functionality has been available for several years, but it only permits account connections to laptops, desktops, and tablets. However, a significant upgrade is now available for beta users: Companion Mode, which will allow users to link their accounts to up to four different smartphones. This will be particularly useful for those who have multiple phones and want to use the same WhatsApp account on each device. To use the same account on two phones, both devices must have the same version of the app.
The Companion Mode works similarly to linked devices. Upon opening the linked devices section, users will be provided with a QR code that can be scanned on the secondary phone to use the same WhatsApp account. This will synchronize chats and media on both devices. Users will not need an active internet connection on the primary phone to use WhatsApp on the secondary phone.
Currently, the feature is only available on WhatsApp beta for Android, and there is no word on when it will be available for iOS devices. We will provide updates as soon as Companion Mode becomes widely accessible.
