The Punjab government’s ambitious “Suthra Punjab program” is taking significant strides towards a cleaner and more sustainable future for the province. This multi-phased initiative is not just about keeping streets clean, but about creating a more responsible waste management system.
Following the success of the initial phase, the program is gearing up for its second and third phases, launching simultaneously. A key focus of the second phase is ensuring equitable access to sanitation services across both rural and urban areas of Punjab.
One of the most innovative aspects of Suthra Punjab program is the establishment of 10 recycling plants at the divisional level. These plants will transform waste collected from villages and wards into valuable resources like energy and compost. This not only reduces landfill burden but also creates opportunities for a more circular economy.
The program also tackles waste collection at the local level. By assigning one sanitation worker for every 250 houses in rural areas and tehsils, Suthra Punjab program ensures efficient collection and management of waste. Furthermore, digital monitoring systems will be implemented to oversee these new sanitation measures, promoting transparency and accountability.
The Suthra Punjab program goes beyond just cleaning Punjab; it signifies a commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable future. By adopting innovative approaches to waste management and resource recovery, the program paves the way for a healthier environment and a thriving recycling sector in Punjab.
