This is first national ice sports event held in Ghulkin village of Upper Hunza. Ghulkin Winter Club is organizing this event with sympathy of Pakistan Winter Olympic Sports Association, Dawn reported.
Ice football, Ice skating, Ice hokey and Ice polo are major games in this sports competition.
Amjad Wali- president of the GB Winter Sports Aassociation said in interview that this event will continue till 23rd January 2022.
Total 21 teams are participating in this sports festival. These teams belongs to Sindh, Baluchistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, AJK, GB Scouts, Pakistan Air Force, Baltistan, Pakistan Army, Hunza and Ghizer. There are also five women teams only.
Wendy Gilmour- Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan is chief guest of this event. He will also serve as match referee between Chipurson Huna and Altit Scarf team’s Ice Hokey match.
Obaidullah Baig- senior minister in Gilgit Baltistan highly appreciated Wendy Gilmour for taking interest and helping to organize this sports event in Gilgit Baltistan.
Event started with ceremony in which traditional dances and national anthems were perform by different artists.
Wendy Gilmour said, “It is inspiring to watch young players taking part in ice hockey and the local community members encouraging them to learn the game,” as reported in Dawn.
