Mother Gives Birth on Plane in Mid Air – Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Karachi:
A flight operated by Qatar Airways, traveling from Doha to Manila, experienced an unexpected situation that necessitated an emergency landing at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport. The reason behind this emergency landing was the delivery of a baby boy by a pregnant passenger while the aircraft was airborne. The birth took place a few hours after the departure from Manila and before the pilot could safely land in Karachi.
The pilot immediately contacted the Air Traffic Controller in Karachi, requesting permission to conduct an emergency landing at the airport. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) verified the incident and confirmed that both the mother and the newborn baby were promptly transported to a hospital for necessary medical assistance.
This occurrence is not the first time that Jinnah International Airport in Karachi has witnessed an emergency landing. Earlier this month, another international flight had to make an emergency landing due to a passenger’s deteriorating health condition. The flight was en route from Muscat to Bangladesh when a Bangladeshi passenger’s condition worsened. The pilot communicated with the Air Traffic Controller in Karachi, obtained clearance, and successfully landed the aircraft. Regrettably, the unwell passenger did not survive.
These incidents serve as a reminder of the crucial role played by airlines and airports in promptly and appropriately handling medical emergencies that may arise during flights.
