Pakistan Set to Introduce 5G Services by August 2024:
Pakistan is preparing to introduce 5G mobile phone connectivity in August 2024 to meet the demand for faster and better telecommunication services. The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has outlined a plan for this, including hiring an international consultant to assist with the project, establishing a committee to guide 5G’s future in Pakistan, and formulating rules for the auction of 5G spectrum. The government aims to learn from the experiences of other countries, such as Bangladesh, to ensure a competitive and fair auction process.
Before conducting the auction, efforts improve the telecom sector, addressing ongoing court cases related to spectrum allocation and providing incentives to telecom companies participating in the auction. To enhance the 5G infrastructure, measures will taken to streamline the process of opening Letters of Credit (LC) and laying fiber optic cables.
