Simplest Method to Avoid Mosquitoes:
According to a research conducted by Virginia Tech, the scent of coconut can help keep mosquitoes away. The study found that different scented soaps have varying degrees of effectiveness in repelling mosquitoes and preventing their bites. The researchers explained that it is essential to understand how the chemicals in the soap interact with an individual’s body chemistry to determine how effective they are at repelling mosquitoes.
The research found that a person’s body odor is a result of the combination of more than 350 unique chemicals, some of which are produced by the body and others by the bacteria living on the skin. While everyone has similar chemicals, the amount and ratio of chemicals vary, making some individuals more attractive to mosquitoes than others. The amount of attractive chemicals changes based on factors such as illness, pregnancy, or obesity.
The study involved four individuals, each with different chemical compositions, and four types of scented soap. The researchers found that coconut-scented soap was the most effective in repelling mosquitoes, while the other soaps had varying degrees of effectiveness.
