The upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan throws a question mark on India’s participation. The cricketing world awaits a decision, with talks of a venue change or a hybrid model being tossed around. Hosting the Champions Trophy 2025 would be a significant feat for Pakistan. This would be their first major ICC tournament since the 1996 World Cup, and their cricket stadiums are undergoing renovations in preparation.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed openness to a bilateral series with India, contingent on their participation in the Champions Trophy held in Pakistan. However, reports suggest India remains uninterested in a series and might even skip the Champions Trophy altogether.
“Forget a bilateral series,” a source revealed, “There’s serious doubt about India even coming to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. Discussions about a venue change and a potential hybrid model are ongoing.”
The source elaborated that India’s cricket board requires government approval for a Pakistan tour due to the current political climate. Therefore, India’s participation in the Champions Trophy 2025 hinges on a governmental go-ahead, making an India-Pakistan series appear unlikely in the near future.
