A remarkable multiple birth has taken place at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Rawalpindi. On Friday, a local woman gave birth to sextuplets, four boys and two girls, defying odds of one in 4.7 billion. The proud parents, Zeenat Bibi and Waheed from Hazara Colony, overjoyed with this unexpected blessing.
The sextuplets in Rawalpindi are all reported to be in healthy condition with normal birth weights. Currently receiving specialized neonatal care at the hospital’s ICU, they expected to remain there until medical professionals clear them for discharge.
The occurrence of sextuplets is exceptionally rare. While advancements in fertility treatments have marginally increased the probability of multiple births, these are generally discouraged by medical experts due to potential health concerns. There are two primary types of sextuplets: fraternal, developing from distinct egg and sperm combinations, and identical, formed when a single fertilized egg divides into multiple embryos. The gender composition of sextuplets can vary, with possibilities including all boys, all girls, or a mix of both. Notably, identical multiples will always share the same gender.
While the arrival of sextuplets is unquestionably a cause for celebration, the challenges faced by the new family are substantial. Caring for even one newborn is a demanding responsibility, and providing for six will necessitate immense love, support, and resources. The local community has come together to offer well wishes and support to the family during this extraordinary time.
