A subsidiary of the China Green Development Investment Group has recently launched what is now hailed as the world’s largest solar plant. This monumental 3.5-gigawatt project, known as the Xinjiang Midong solar project, is located in Xinjiang. The world’s largest solar plant features over 5.26 million solar panels, sprawling across a vast expanse of 32,947 acres.
The world’s largest solar plant commenced operations on June 3, generating approximately 6.09 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. To put this into perspective, this energy output could power the entire country of Papua New Guinea for a year.
Developed by a state-owned company with projects in 12 different provinces across China, the largest solar plant is a testament to their guiding philosophy. This philosophy emphasizes being people-oriented, treating ecology as a fundamental principle, and considering culture as the soul of their initiatives.
The construction of the Xinjiang Midong solar project demanded a significant investment of 15.45 billion yuan, equivalent to around $2.13 billion. This substantial investment highlights the scale and ambition of the project, aiming to make a notable contribution to renewable energy production and ecological sustainability in China.
