MUZAFFARABAD: An anti-terrorism court in Muzaffarabad denied bail for poet Ahmed Farhad on Tuesday, according to ARY News. The verdict, reserved on Monday, followed arguments from both the prosecution and the defense.
Ahmed Farhad’s lawyer, Zulqarnain Naqvi Advocate, filed the bail petition, citing the severity of the charges, which include seven clauses related to terrorism. The case originated on May 13 during a protest by the Awami Action Committee.
Farhad gained public attention after his disappearance amid protests in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. His wife petitioned the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on May 15, seeking his return and accountability for those responsible for his disappearance.
On May 29, the Attorney General of Pakistan informed the IHC that Farhad had been arrested and was in the custody of AJK police. A report from Dher Kot police station was submitted to Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani.
Previously, the IHC had summoned senior intelligence officials and the federal law minister to address Farhad’s case. The court also declined the federal government’s request to close the recovery case until Farhad appeared personally in court.
The IHC will continue hearing the case on June 7.
