Bus Fares Increased Up to 267% in Punjab:
The Punjab Government has recently announced a significant increase in the fees for inter- and intra-city transportation, particularly for non-AC buses. The decision has sparked widespread concern among the public, who are already struggling with the high cost of living. Many fear that the sharp increase in transportation costs will make it difficult for them to travel at all.
The new fares went into effect on April 25, amidst a backdrop of soaring inflation. Citizens who are already feeling the impact of inflation worry that this increase will only add to their financial burden. The bus fares for journeys between different cities will see a 265% increase, while those within the city will go up by 267%. For example, the current rate for a four-kilometer journey is Rs. 14, but after the hike, it will cost Rs. 47, which is an increase of Rs. 33.
With fuel prices also on the rise, more people have been turning to public transport in recent times, but the drastic hike in transportation fees may force many to resort to alternative modes of transportation like cycling or walking. This could have a significant impact on the daily lives of many people who depend on public transportation to get around.
