Palestinians Rained Hundreds of Rockets at Israel Amid Deadly IDF Airstrikes in Gaza:
On Wednesday, there was a significant exchange of fire between Israel’s army and Palestinian militants, with numerous rockets launched from Gaza towards Israel. This occurred following deadly strikes by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on what they claimed were targets belonging to the Islamic Jihad organization in Gaza.
Prior to this latest violence, Israeli airstrikes earlier in the week resulted in the deaths of three leaders of the Palestinian militant group, as well as 10 other Palestinians, including men, women, and children in Gaza. These strikes prompted threats of retaliation.
In an update on Thursday, the IDF reported targeting another commander from Islamic Jihad, describing him as a “central figure” in the group. The IDF stated in a tweet, “We just targeted Ali Ghali, the commander of Islamic Jihad’s Rocket Launching Force, as well as two other Islamic Jihad operatives in Gaza,” adding that Ghali was responsible for recent rocket attacks against Israel. Islamic Jihad confirmed Ghali’s death and stated that he was in charge of the al-Quds Brigades missile unit.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, since the airstrikes began on Tuesday, 25 people have been killed and 76 injured. The casualties included 15 deaths on Tuesday, seven on Wednesday, and three on Thursday.
Israel has been carrying out airstrikes targeting Islamic Jihad operatives and infrastructure, utilizing unmanned drones for surveillance to monitor militant activities related to rocket launches, according to IDF chief spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari.
Hamas, the Palestinian militant group governing Gaza, released a statement suggesting its forces were involve in launching rockets towards Israel, shortly after the IDF firmly stated that it believed Hamas was not responsible. The statement, issued by Muhammad al-Buraim, an official in the joint resistance committees in Palestine, indicated that the Palestinian resistance, including various factions, was unified in teaching the enemy a lesson.
The IDF reported that over 500 rockets fired from Gaza towards Israel during the recent barrage, with 154 intercepted by Israeli missile defenses and 110 falling short and landing within Gaza.
