Sindh postponed Intermediate exams due to a severe heatwave affecting the province. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah approved the delay following a recommendation from Provincial Minister for Universities and Boards, Muhammad Ali Malkani. Initially scheduled for May 22, the exams will now commence on May 27, as confirmed by a spokesperson from the Universities and Boards Department.
The Meteorological Department had previously issued warnings about an impending heatwave impacting most parts of the country, particularly Punjab and Sindh, starting from May 21. Temperatures forecasted to be four to six degrees higher than normal, escalating to six to eight degrees above normal between May 23 and 27. Due to this extreme weather, the public is advised to avoid unnecessary sun exposure and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
In response to the heatwave, the Punjab government has also revised school schedules to protect students. Punjab’s Minister for School Education announced a shorter schedule from May 18 to 31. Schools will be open from 7 am to 11:30 am on Mondays to Thursdays and Saturdays, and from 7 am to 10 am on Fridays.
These measures implemented to safeguard students and staff from the extreme heat. Postponing the exams and adjusting school timings aim to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses. The government is prioritizing the health and safety of students and school personnel during this period of unusually high temperatures.
