International Prices
- Gold: $4,066 per ounce, down $65, according to The Nation, Pakistan Observer and Pakera.
- Silver: About $52 per ounce, down $0.85, according to The Nation.
Pakera uses the dollar rate of Rs276.66, from the State Bank’s 6 November sheet.
How Much Did Prices Change?
The Nation says 24K gold fell Rs6,500 per tola and Rs5,573 per 10 grams. This is the fall from Friday’s rate, which works out to about Rs435,636 per tola. Silver fell Rs85 per tola.
Compared With Two Days Ago
In our 5 November article, 24K gold was Rs426,036 per tola and silver was Rs5,663. Gold today is Rs3,100 higher than that, and silver is Rs15 higher. So the “Rs6,500 fall” is from Friday, not from Thursday. Prices rose on Friday and then dropped. This comparison uses different reports, so it is rough.
Report Mismatches
- Pakistan Observer’s page description gives Rs425,636 and mentions 30 October. The article text itself gives Rs429,136, which matches The Nation.
- The 22K per-tola figure is not given by The Nation, and Pakera’s figures are estimates.
What to Check Before You Buy or Sell
- Rates differ a little between cities and shops.
- Jewellery has making charges and wastage on top of the gold rate. These are not in the rates above.
- Ask for a written receipt with the weight and the karat.
- Check the karat. A tola of 22K gold costs less than a tola of 24K gold.
- When you sell, jewellers often pay less than the market rate. Ask for their buying rate first.
This list is general advice, not from the sources above.
What I Could Not Confirm
- Whether the Association issued a new Saturday rate after these reports. Pakera says the latest report it saw was from Friday afternoon.
- An official 22K per-tola rate.
- The 21K per-10-gram rate.
- The Daily Times page for 7 November, which did not open.
Gold and silver prices change during the day. This is not investment advice.
